Wanted:
Host/hostess for Labyrinth at Bribie Community Arts Centre
The Bribie Labyrinth Project is
seeking applications from charismatic, playful and adventurous mascots
to host and oversee the labyrinth that will be opening at the Bribie
Community Arts Centre (BICAS) on 5 November 2016. Accommodation will be
provided in a artistically designed and decorated home in the centre of
the labyrinth. The successful applicant will feature in publicity for
the labyrinth (and possibly also BICAS), greet visitors to the
labyrinth, guide them on their walk through the labyrinth, and help them
solve puzzles leading to the key to the mascot's home. He/she will
also introduce visitors to activities at the Art Centre, Gem Club and
Woodworkers, and encourage them to participate in these activities.
This is a full time permanent volunteer position, though there might be
ongoing commercial possibilities for the successful applicant as well as
fame and exposure on Bribie Island and beyond.
Our mascot/host/hostess will be discovered/designed by a supporter of
the Labyrinth Project (It might be YOU!). and promoted in signage,
posters and books created by the Bribie Printmakers in collaboration
with the designer.
Applications close Saturday 10 September at 4 pm, and should contain the
name of the mascot, and his/her creator, a sketch (or sketches) of the
mascot and contact details of the creator. Applications should be
emailed to Joyce.Newell@bigpond.com or left in the Printmakers cubbyhole
in the small kitchen a the Arts Centre - or by contacting Joyce to make
other arrangements.
All applications will be circulated to the Bribie Labyrinth Project
community by email, and viewed and considered at the labyrinth site at
BICAS at 9 am on Monday 12 September. All interested people are
invited to be part of the selection panel, either by email or by
attending the selection meeting at the labyrinth site.
For further information, contact Joyce at 3408 7743 or 0439 329 334 or just reply to this email.
Additional information
1. The names that have come to mind so
far are Bob and Bev the BICAS Bilbies (which has the problem that
Bilbies really don't belong on Bribie, though they can be charismatic),
BICAS Bunyips, Les and Leanne the Labyrinth Lizards and Banksia Babies -
Bindi and Bandi. The main thing needed is a catchy name - preferably
with alliteration. The name should probably be unisex - or have a
male/female couple. At this stage, these are names only, and need
someone to bring them to life.
2. The mascot should be appealing to both children and adults.
2. The house for the mascot/host will double as a low table in the
centre of the labyrinth, with a waterproof container underneath
containing a visitors book for the labyrinth, a selection of books
featuring the mascot discussing the facilities and possibilities in the
Art Centre Precinct, and possibly also adventures on Bribie that the
mascot might have, as well as a geocache
- a combination of information and books suitable for reading to
children- and adults. The roof and walls of the house will be artwork -
possibly mosaic. The box will be locked with a combination that will
be discoverable through walking the labyrinth so that it can be accessed
only by interested people.
Looking forward to meeting your creation of our mascot!
Joyce
