After almost a
year of planning, we have approval to build a labyrinth within the BICAS
Lease Site inside the Ring Road in the lightly wooded area between the
Boardroom and the Gem Club.!!! And we have a deadline to work towards -
I would like to have the Grand Opening of the Labyrinth on November 5
as part of my 70th birthday celebration. Since I will be away from
Wednesday 14 September to Friday 30 September, this means that October
will be Labyrinth Building Month!!
The basic concept of the labyrinth is for winding paths leading to and
from a central circle with seating. The path will be marked with a
single line of bricks and pavers set level with the ground on a base of
bedding sand stabilised with mortar. More details can be found here..
How YOU can be involved!
1. Planning and Concept Development
I will be onsite for the next 3 Mondays
(August 29 and September 5 and 12) from 9 am to 11 am (weather
permitting) to explore the site and discuss possible designs and how
these plans can be developed to include artwork, stories and
puzzles/challenges. If these times do not suit, please contact means we
can hopefully find another time (and place?) to meet - or just send me
your thoughts and ideas.
2.Donation of materials
We
need donations of unwanted bricks and pavers, bedding sand, cement,
brickies loam, and mortar mix. I do have sufficient bricks and pavers
to do the job, however, more are most welcome. Those who have followed
the ongoing story of the labyrinth would know that we originally hoped
to use natural, preferably handmade path markers - but further
investigation showed that these would be more labor (and perhaps money)
consuming that is reasonable at this stage of the project. However, if
we can get donations of even small quantities of a large variety of
bricks and pavers from lots of people, the path will both be more
interesting - and more importantly, have input from as many people as
possible. Please contact me to arrange to deliver them to the site
before 14 September, or in early October, or if I could arrange pick up
from your place.
3. Help with construction
I
plan to be onsite as much as possible from 7 am to10 am Sunday, Monday,
Tuesday and Friday throughout October. Just come along, bring your
friends, and help in whatever way you want. There will be jobs to suit
all abilities, from just offering encouragement to some digging and
mixing mortar.
4. Come to the Grand Opening!
Saturday 5 November from 1 pm - details to come
Looking forward to hearing from you or meeting you onsite,
Joyce
